Polarwolf Noran kam im Alter von 6 Tagen zu mir. Seine Geschwister sind gestorben, da die Wölfin vermutlich zu wenig Muttermilch hatte.
Seine ersten 4 Lebensmonate wuchs er bei mir zu Hause auf, bis er schließlich ins Wolfsrudel des Wildparks Lüneburger Heide integriert wurde.
Als Noran ca. einen Monat alt war, hatte unsere Deutsch Drahthaarhündin Edda 11 Welpen geworfen.
So hat Noran in seiner Entwicklung die letzten Schwangerschaftswochen, Geburt und das Aufwachsen der Welpen erlebt.
Attila, einen der Welpen, habe ich behalten und so hat Noran auch heute noch die Möglichkeit sich mit seinem Spielkamerad regelmäßig zu treffen.
Jedem Hundebesitzer ist bekannt, wie wichtig ein Spiel für eine ausgewogene Entwicklung eines Hundewelpens ist und nicht anders ist dies bei einem Wolfswelpen.
Diese Fotos dokumentieren die ersten 8 Monate in Norans und Attilas Leben.
Die Beiden sind dicke Kumpel und obwohl es auf den Fotos manchmal gefährlich aussieht, spielen sie sehr zärtlich und völlig lautlos miteinander.
Auf den Fotos ist deutlich sichtbar, wie ausdrucksstark die Mimik des Wolfes im Gegensatz zu einem Hund ist.

Arctic wolf *NORAN* & German Wirehaired Pointer *ATTILA*
Noran the arctic wolf came to me at the age of 6 days. His siblings had died, probably because the wolf mother had too little milk.
He lived at my house for the first four months of his life and then joined the wolf pack living at the Lüneburger Heide Wildlife Sanctuary.
When Noran was about a month old, our German Wirehaired Pointer Edda had a litter of eleven puppies.
This allowed Noran to witness the last weeks of gestation, the birth, and the infancy of the puppies.
I kept one of the puppies, Attila, and Noran still meets his former playmate on a regular basis.
Every dog owner knows how important play is for the balanced development of puppies, and wolf cubs are no exception.
These photos document the first eight months in Noran’s and Attila’s life.
The two are very close friends, and although the photos make it seem that they are pretty rough with one another, their play is actually very tender and quiet.
The photos make it very obvious how expressive wolves are compared to dogs.

Wölfe lieben Welpen und so haben auch die beiden erwachsenen Polarwölfe Flocke und Nanuk den Kleinen schon beim ersten Besuch sofort ins Herz geschlossen. Vor allem Alpharüde Nanuk verliebt sich auf der Stelle. In diesem Alter genießen die Kleinen Narrenfreiheit. Ein aufgeweckter, temperamentvoller und frecher Welpe ist Stolz des ganzen Rudels.

Wolves love cubs. The two adult arctic wolves, Flocke and Nanuk, immediately took a liking to the little one at his first visit. Especially the alpha male, Nanuk, fell in love at first sight. At this age, little wolf cubs are given a lot of license. An alert, lively and cheeky cub is the pride of the entire pack.

Als großer Bruder bekommt Noran eine besondere Stellung im Rudel.

As the big brother, Noran has a special status in the pack.

Zu Beginn erlaubt Edda niemandem ihren Jungen zu nah zu kommen, aber im Alter von fünf Wochen, als die Welpen aus der Wurfkiste klettern, darf Noran unter ihrer strenger Aufsicht mit ihnen spielen.

In the beginning, Edda did not allow anyone to come close to her litter. When the puppies were about five weeks old and began to climb out of their box, Noran was allowed to play with them under strict supervision.

Wölfe wachsen viel schneller als Hunde. Noran ist auf diesem Bild knapp drei Monate alt. Obwohl der Altersunterschied zwischen ihm und den Hundewelpen nur vier Wochen beträgt, hat Noran einen deutlichen Vorsprung.

Wolves grow up faster than dogs. In this picture, Noran is about three months old. Although the age difference between him and the dog litter is just four weeks, Noran is clearly more advanced.

Attila und Noran sind dicke Kumpel geworden und obwohl es auf den Fotos manchmal gefährlich aussieht, spielen sie sehr zärtlich und wie unter Wölfen üblich, völlig lautlos, miteinander.

Attila and Noran are very close friends, and although the photos make it seem that they are pretty rough with one another, their play is actually very loving and, as is the custom among wolves, completely quiet.

Es gibt Freundschaften, die halten ein ganzes Leben lang. Manche bestehen von klein auf, andere bilden sich im Laufe des Lebens. Es gibt tiefe, enge Freundschaften, bei denen sich die Partner nie trennen und es gibt auch Freundschaften, die sich nur gelegentlich ausleben lassen wie die von Attila und Noran.

Some friendships last a lifetime. Some are formed in early childhood, and others start during the course of our lives. There are close, deep friendships, in which the partners are never separate, and there are friendships that are just renewed occasionally, such as in the case of Attila and Noran.

Im Alter von vier Monaten zieht Noran endgültig in das Wolfsgehege des Wildparks Lüneburger Heide. Obwohl er jetzt bei Flocke und Nanuk lebt, darf er heute noch gelegentlich das Gehege verlassen und seinen Hundefreund Attila aus der Kinderzeit treffen. Die Wiedersehensfreude ist immer unbeschreiblich groß.

When he was four months old, Noran moved into the wolf enclosure of the Lüneburger Heide Wildlife Sanctuary. Although he now lives permanently with Flocke and Nanuk, he is sometimes allowed to leave the fenced area to meet his childhood dog friend, Attila. They are always overjoyed to see each other.
